DJ Tuffist has been a member of the legendary Konkrete Jungle organization for more than 10 years and is currently part of labels including Chopstick Dubplate, Cause and Effect Records and Little Island Records. Tuffist is also a DJ in rotation on SUB.FM, the internationally-acclaimed UK-based radio station.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Tuffist grew up listening to urban music, and immediately took to the sound of Jungle/DnB when he first heard it in 1995, at the age of 14. Tuffist got his start on the local scene as a founding member of Survival NYC (New York’s original Ragga Jungle warriors), pushing the sound against the grain during “the dark years,” until the junglist revival began in the early 2000’s. Through a string of mix tapes (that became underground classics), Tuffist’s name began to disseminate through the stateside jungle community, and soon he found himself with a full schedule of bookings, as well as a residency at Konkrete Jungle. By 2001 Tuffist was working at the world famous Break Beat Science and traveling to various cities around the US and Canada to perform. In May, 2000, Tuffist reached as far as Movement at Bar Rumba in London. In 2005 Tuffist and Miztah Lex launched Cause and Effect Records and he released his first track on vinyl, “My Sound (The False Alarm).”

Tuffist moved to Barcelona, Spain in 2006 and founded Konkrete Jungle Barcelona, as well as the city’s first weekly Dubstep event, Bass Attack. Since relocating, Tuffist has consistently been invited to play at major events all around the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe. In the last few years Tuffist has performed on multiple occasions along side world-class reggae vocalists such as Demolition Man and Top Cat. Tuffist also holds a residency at Barcelona’s top Dubstep night, B.Low.

Tuffist has spent much of the last year in the studio completing the new Chopstick Meets River Nile album alongside Jacky Murda and Aries, while being a vital component in the creation of the fresh new Dubstep Label, Little Island Records with Jacky Murda and Kion.

His constant stream of shows and travels throughout his years on the circuit are testament to Tuffist’s reputation as a powerful stage presence, with consistency and strong crowd awareness. His name is associated with lively, energetic and varied sets, and he transmits his love for the music in his interaction with the public, never leaving listeners indifferent.
